So strange I didn't hear about this when I lived in TriBeCa but this is such a nice cultural New York tradition: the Swedish community is celebrating midsummer by dancing around a 'may tree' and enjoying folklore music. They picked the perfect location: down by battery park, with a view of the statue of liberty... And of course there's plenty of great Swedish food. The Scandinavia house was selling some delicatessen and I saw this delicious cloudberry jam which I had to buy in spite of only being here another week and not even knowing if I can finish it... The cinnamon rolls looked delish as well. This is definitely something I will miss about NYC- it's such a diverse place that you can find celebrations for every nationality and there's always so much going on, so much to learn. I just learned that Swedish girls who are not married are supposed to put seven or nine flowers under their pillow tonight and then they will dream of the 'one' person that they will marry...
However, one thing I won't miss I the craziness and how crowded it gets with any of these events. But then again, apparently Munich is also ready to burst as I heard today... Still, I hope that I'm so used to crowds by now, since everything that's remotely interesting draws a crowd here, that ill easily be able to tolerate Munich crowds...
