This New Year's Eve was the greatest one to date - I was in bed by 10 pm after having done 108 sun salutations (thanks for the inspiration - have been sore ever since) and having had my dinner. Given that I would be woken up in a few hours (if I was lucky) sleep seemed to be the better choice for me and I decided to learn from our little one and consider New Year's Eve no different from every other day of the year.
Except - maybe it was slightly different because we took the occasion to play around with tarot cards, something I had never done before but I had always been intrigued to try. A friend hosted a session at her place, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I considered it somewhat of a horoscope - something that is intentionally kept so vague that anything can fit...
When it was my turn I was instructed to think of one major question/event/part of my life that the cards should give me some insights about and once I flipped my first card, I was very surprised to see the Seven of Disks/ Lord of Failure. Although this wasn't exactly what I had been thinking of, after getting over the shock, it was very fitting to see this card. It is important to remember that in tarot the negative cards are not to be taken literally but rather represent somewhat of a trigger. The cards were telling me to see what I had considered a failure as a fresh start and rather than thinking about what I couldn't do, start thinking about what I was capable of doing and most of all what I would enjoy doing. At the same time, this particular card stands for impatience and resignation that we should turn into the ability to wait. Something that I have been struggling with.
Continuing the deck of cards, I also flipped the Lovers, a much more positive card that is about the bliss of coming together but also symbolises a dilemma - something that I'd have to choose. Along the same lines, the Princess of the Disks symbolises a new beginning and is about creation, growth, birth and making - a perfect card for the new year. Now I just have to figure out what exactly it is I'll be starting this year but I already have some ideas of which direction this might be heading - my Kundalini yoga training is kicking off again this weekend and some other things are appearing on the horizon. I might try asking the cards again once I'm closer to actually starting off. I have to say, I was surprised to learn how accurate and fitting the cards were - not just for me but also for the others in the group...
