Even though I was struggling for a few days now we have actually decided to change our flights and are now only flying to Miami and returning from Atlanta (yay - we'll also visit an old friend of mine).
It's really too bad that my foot is keeping us from going ahead with our plans but it would not have been the same without being able to walk properly. Wow, still sounds a bit weird- after running a marathon only a few weeks ago I'm now almost ready for the wheelchair :-( Might have been tempting fate there...
Am starting to get excited about the new trip now though- have always wanted to see New Orleans and have heard great stories about the gulf coast and the Florida panhandle with nice sandy beaches at Emerald Beach... And one thing I am really curious about is how much we can see about the Civil Rights movement there... Even though the accomodation and trips might end up being quite a bit more pricy than what we had budgeted for South America, it will be well worth it - and we might have to calculate some extra budget for shopping ;-)
But one thing we'll defintely start with is resting my foot on the grandma tour to the Bahamas and Florida Keys, offered by one of our largest clients, Royal Caribean Cruises. My Mum is relieved as there will most certainly be good medical care on board...
Any other tips for the surprise trip- let us know!
Stay tuned for updates - another good thing about the US - there should be internet all over :-)
