Looks like I'll be on a travel freeze for a while now. Too bad cause I was just starting to get into this whole blogging thing. But I guess I can still take down a stream of consciousness every once in a while when I'm dreaming of being able to travel. Just not so sure whether it'll be interesting enough to read. But I guess you can ask that question with a lot of blogs ;-)
I never would have thought only weeks after the marathon I would be lying on the couch like an 80-year-old with a THROMBOSIS. Let me tell you this- it really ain't fun. On the bright side though, they discovered it before we took off and it might have turned into something way worse...
I managed to rebook flights so we'll have another try for Miami in March. The scary thing is that I need to Marcumar (thinning the blood) for about 3 months and the doctor needs to check my blood quite regularly now. But I find it most ridiculous that after not having prescribed thrombosis prevention measures, the hospital we first went to has sent me an invoice for another 10 Euros "Praxisgebühr" today. I really hold them responsible as they should have known that I could't walk properly on that foot. First of all they misdiagnosed the foot and secondly they didn't think of thrombosis. Can it get any worse?
Next time I would insist on the prophylactic shots from the beginning- but aren't we always smarter AFTER something happened?
What really bothers me is that we won't be able to go anywhere interesting since I need to get check-ups with the doctors on the composition of the blood every few days. As a friend of mine put it- maybe it's fate forcing you to slow down your life? Slowing things down doesn't have to be a bad thing, I just wish I was able to move a bit more ;-) In any case, I was lucky and need to be grateful for that and shall now focus on: watching my soap operas, reading a book again for a change, following Facebook more closely (not that this presents much of a change), really preparing for my Russian class, having extensive phone conversations and generally just relaxing. At the same time I shouldn't only be resting so any volunteers to take a bored hobbling cripple to the park are welcome.
