Since summer finally arrived in Munich, it was time for another yoga session in the park. This time with some extra challenges as I have a little bit more of a belly to support these days. Yet, I was keen to host a first session of the year because first of all, I am not sure when the little one intends to show up and how quickly I'll be able to get back to practicing/teaching after that and secondly because there were some sports-crazy students whom I wanted to show that yoga can be so beneficial as a means of strengthening their bodies and complementing their regular practice - be it running or regular triathlons or even an iron man.
When thinking about what I would be teaching, some Kundalini elements came to mind but I still decided to stick to a more traditional vinyasa inspired class simply because I wasn't sure whether the group was quite ready for a lengthy meditation or shanting practice - I might blend in some more elements going forward though. I think I need to give myself some time to experiment with the different techniques. The class went well although I realized that I could not teach quite the way I was used to, showing and instructing at the same time (just talking sometimes leaves me out of breath these days). This is when I remembered, however, from our teacher training that you are actually supposed to walk around, observing your students at least once in a while. And so I did and ended up enjoying the class a lot. Still today I noticed that I must have still demonstrated quite a few of the asana as my back and especially my shoulders are a little sore (have not been practicing those chatturangas in a while)...
I am now excited to try out some more maternity yoga classes around my neighborhood as well as a Kundalini class a little outside Munich over the coming weeks and potentially also to start teaching a private class for prenatal yoga. Lots of yoga plans before the little one comes but I have no doubt it's only to his benefit :-)
