Water and mountains - what else could we wish for?
I can't believe it has taken me almost a decade of living in Munich (ok, with some interruptions) to make it to Munich's favorite weekend trip destination. It's a real shame because you can easily get to Lake Garda in 3-3.5 hours (provided the traffic is ok) but I guess it's because I never owned a car before. Not that we do now but we took a rental car and it sure was worth a trip.
We ended up going to
Torbole , a really cute, tiny village close to Riva del Garda at the very northern tip of the Lake. It seems to be a meeting point for wind surfers at the lake which made our hotel a perfect spot for observing them. It was fascinating to see how the water was really quiet one minute and then within a few minutes the winds picked up and you could see a whole crowd of wind surfers picking up their boards and sails and get out onto the lake.
Even though the weather was mixed, we could tell that this will not the last time to spend a few days in this amazing spot in the middle of the alps... The one thing to remember is to drive on an off-day rather than on a Friday or Sunday because traffic is not to be underestimated, especially on the Brenner highway at the border of Italy and Austria.

Gorgeous mountains framing the lake

Lake Garda would be a nice location for a wedding as well

Too bad we're heading home already...
