So basically the concept of beer & food pairing is simple- the host chooses not just one beer to go with different courses but every course has another beer to go with the food. Since beer can be quite heavy, the portions need to be a little smaller but it was amazing to see how well the food matched the drinks. Like I said, not being much of a beer drinker myself, I was reluctant to even try some of the drinks offered but I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of what we had. Especially the first one was really light and had a fruity flavor to go with the shrimps- delicious! The host told us that they had gone through quite a few dishes to find the perfect combination and you could tell this was done with a lot of love... I was really impressed not just by the sophistication and care that they took but also by the variety of beers on offer. I had heard before that with all the micro breweries in the US, there is quite a sub culture of beers but I had no idea that this could mean that I would actually enjoy what they called beer here. Will need to go out in Brooklyn more and explore some of these micro breweries... Probably nothing for the traditional German beer drinker but very interesting for me.
Will share a few more samples...
