The views from the city park 'mont royale' are gorgeous.
People can jog, hike, cycle or walk up there and some people also take a bus...
It's very nice and quiet in spite of the many people using the different trails, even trail running strikes me as quite possible out here. I wonder if people cross country ski in winter too...
By the foot of the park, there is an interesting mixture of families coming for a picnic and students drinking and smoking a lot of pot... Generally, the city seemed to be quite lax on pot as we smelled it in a lot of places... Reminds you of Amsterdam.
The area I enjoyed the most was 'Le Plateau', the studenty part of the city which is not too far from the park but at the same time enjoys a lot of interesting cafes, restaurants (I saw everything from Venezuelan to Cambodian, which I have actually never had) and bars as well as cute botique shops.
And we heard a lot of music too - apparently one of the nicest times to go is the jazz festival. This was in the middle of the portuguese quarter, in the pedestrian zone (yes, they have such a thing in Montreal - must be the European influence).
